Purpose

The project exists to make disputed public claims easier to audit. Each entry identifies the claim, states the finding in measured language, and places the original statement beside relevant primary or government evidence.

Evidence threshold

An entry is published only when the original statement and a relevant primary or government evidence source can both be linked on the record.

• Quotations are presented with enough context to preserve their meaning.
• Findings address verifiable factual content, not political viewpoint or rhetoric alone.
• Labels reflect the evidence cited in the entry and may be revised when stronger evidence emerges.

Labels

False is reserved for a factual claim contradicted by the cited evidence. Misleading applies when a claim omits material context, overstates the evidence, or creates an unsupported impression. An entry may use both terms when the record warrants it.

Independence and funding

The Lie Ledger is not an official government publication and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any political candidate, campaign, party, agency, or public official. Any future sponsorship, material support, or conflicts affecting coverage should be disclosed on this page.

Attribution and fair use

Sources remain the property of their respective publishers. Brief quotations and links are used for criticism, comment, and public-interest reporting. The Lie Ledger claims ownership only in its original selection, analysis, writing, and design.
